Where Is Revit Used? Sectors and Project Types
Revit is used in architectural, interior design, structural engineering, and MEP projects, as well as large infrastructure works that require BIM coordination.
Revit is a multidisciplinary BIM tool that finds application in nearly every phase of the building production process, from architectural drawing to MEP modeling.
Architectural Projects
Revit is used to prepare architectural designs, permit drawings, and construction documents for residential, commercial, and institutional buildings. Since all views are derived from a single model, revisions take far less time.
Interior Design Projects
In commercial spaces, hotels, hospital interiors, and office projects, Revit is used for space layout, material selection, and quantity takeoffs.
Structural Engineering
Through Revit Structure, the structural system (beams, columns, shear walls, foundations) is modeled and can be exported directly to analysis software.
MEP Projects
With Revit MEP, HVAC ducts, sprinkler systems, electrical panels, and piping networks are modeled. Clash detection with other disciplines is performed automatically.
Large Infrastructure and Public Projects
BIM requirements are increasingly common in large-scale public projects such as airports, hospitals, schools, and government buildings. BIM Level 2 is mandatory in the UK and Europe; this trend is growing in Turkey as well.
Restoration and Survey Projects
The BIM+Revit approach is used for documenting and restoring historic buildings. Point cloud data can be imported into Revit for as-built survey work.
